At Pup Scouts your puppy is a S.T.A.R.! Each class starts with an off-leash group playtime. We'll cover potty training, loose leash walking, games and other behavior as well as puppy obedience both off-leash and on. Included in your puppy’s enrollment is the AKC S.T.A.R. puppy test. Once your puppy passes this test, you’ll receive a certificate from the AKC acknowledging your puppy's good behavior.
Get your puppy off to a great start:
Socialization- Socialization is one of the most important aspects to raising a puppy. At Pup Scouts, your puppy will socialize with our many friendly daycare dogs, staff and visitors to help get him off to a great start.
Potty Training- A potty command is taught and reinforced throughout the day while your puppy is here. Every evening, when you pick your dog up, one of our trainers will let you know how your puppy did and exactly what you need to do that evening to reinforce good potty habits at home.
Crate Training- We'll use your puppy's time here to teach him to relax and enjoy his crate.
Puppy Obedience- Our training uses only positive training methods that are perfect for young puppies. During the two week accelerated training your puppy will learn to sit and down on command, keep a one minute sit stay and down stay, perform the four beginning heel exercises, do a distracted recall from 20” and know wait and leave it.
Behavior- We teach and reinforce good behavior at Pup Scouts. You’re puppy will learn to relax in a crate, go through a door nicely, greet people without jumping and sit nicely for petting.
Boarding option available.
During this two week camp, your puppy will learn the potty command and proper potty behavior will be reinforced all day while you're at work. Every evening when you pick up your puppy, we'll tell you exactly what you need to do with your puppy that evening to reinforce proper potty behavior at home. Boarding option is available.
Classes are small, usually 3-6 dogs, and use positive reinforcement techniques through exercises developed to create success from the beginning. The classes cover attention exercises, calming, name recognition, sit, down, stay, heel and loose leash walking. For puppies and dogs 6 months to adult.
A note about bringing your dog to class- Please don’t feel embarrassed if your dog is imperfect. We understand that you are coming to class with your dog precisely because your dog is not trained. As such, we expect barking, lunging and other “bad” or excited behaviors. We will gladly help you work through them because that’s our job. It’s all about progress, not perfection.
In home classes are perfect if you have a busy schedule, need help with a specific training area or have a dog that may need a little extra attention. Classes are held once a week so that you and your dog have the opportunity to work on each command before new ones are added. Behavioral issues can also be addressed within the context of training. All members of your family are encouraged to participate.
